How long will this be running? Until March, I hope. I want to get a shot of the gilded roof tile from the destroyed keep.

And you'll email me, and we'll go geek out over castles together...my wife likely wouldn't want to go.

Mine would! If things go as planned, I'll be leaving in late February and staying until the end of Cherry Blossom season...I've never been in Japan for that and want to see it.

Northern Kyoto is amazing that time of year, and Omura castle in Kyushu during that season looks like it jumped out of a colorful Abarenbo Shogun episode.

Kyoto is what I'm really looking forward to (although I did want to visit Kyushu again to follow up on some info concerning a pre-Heian Confucian temple, so that's as good an excuse as any). I love following the path of the Philosopher's Walk in NE Kyoto, and I can only imagine how much better it'll be when the cherry trees lining it are in bloom.
And speaking of Abarenbo Shogun-is Samba No Kami still making the rounds with his live show? I have to see it just to believe it.

Mine might be convinced if she had a counterpart, so maybe. Of course, we'd have to figure out what to do with the kid. So you've NEVER been in Japan during hanami???!???!?!

I won't disappear until August, and may be here up to a year after that...who knows at this point.

Heck, I might be able to swing that, depending on work.

Nope, even though some years I've spent 8 months there. Almost always fall, sometimes winter, occasionally summer-it seems like my job always has an influx of cases to work on in spring.

That makes sense, if I remember your job correctly.

Hanami is unreal. It even makes Camp Zama look beautiful.
