Attention all ancient Japan fans,

Noted professor of ancient Japanese history, Mori Koichi 森浩一 has a new book out called 古代史おさらい帖 Kodaishi Osaraichō. The book is published by Chikuma Shobo and was just released on Oct 5.

My wife, who seems to have a fairly strong interest in pre-Heian Japanese history, bought it the other day. The book takes on many of the common misconceptions about ancient Japanese history by backing them up with research based on archeological analysis and research over the past 20 years or so. It appears that this book is the “Myth Busters” of ancient Japanese history. Smile

My wife hasn’t read it yet, but says it is written in a style that is not aimed at the serious academic or student of ancient Japan, but written for the general Japanese public so they can easily grasp what Mori is writing as he turns what the post-war generations of Japanese learned in school upside down and rocks their world.

Check it out. The book is available on amazon.co.jp.

Nagaeyari—I’m willing to bet that you’ll be the first non-native speaker of Japanese in the U.S. to get your hands on this one. Wink

Nags,

Wow, that was a quick delivery!

Have fun reading it. My wife hasn't started it yet, but at the rate she reads, she'll get to it very soon. She got side-tracked by the latest edition of "Do-da Dancing" last night. Laughing If you have any questions you want to direct at her about the book, let me know, and I'll see what I can do.
