A television series but more specifically a mini-series. The Japanese title is "Hitachi Uma No Hone." The main actor is Uchino Masaki who had also starred in the epic tv-series of "Furin Kazan."

What the "horse-cutting" refers to is the particular technique used for the Swordsmanship. As shown in a flashback, the technique of "uma no hone" had been created spontaneously when a samurai had to fend off a sudden attack by a mad horse. At a moment's notice, the samurai originated that particular technique.

Basically, the plotline of this TV-series (written by the famous Fujisawa Shuhei) is that of a murder-mystery. That is, a samurai had been murdered. The actor, Uchino, as the main character, Ishibashi Ginjiro, fills the role of an investigator as he tries to slowly determine the identity of the Swordsman who used "Uma No Hone" ryu.
