Greetings Everyone,
I've been following The Samurai Archives for close to six years now, though I've only recently become a member, and it's one of my favorite websites (It's linked on my blog ) I'm posting because I've published a novel, Ghost of Iga, and I hope that some of you might be interested in it. Despite the name, it is actually a literary historical novel, and I have provided a sixty page (14 chapter) preview here: http://tinyurl.com/ykehj94 as well as a three page historical footnote for anyone who is curious about my motivation. Also, though the book is finished and I'm not really looking for helpful criticism, if any of the senior members of the forum are interested, I have three free finished copies I'd be happy to mail. Just pm me.
Many thanks for your time
Don |

Hi Don,
Congratulations on the publication of your book!
I quickly read a few pages from the preview you provided and they were very well written.
A question and a favor-- first the question-- who has published your book? I see only the Kindle version is available on Amazon. We'd be willing to add your written book to our SA Amazon store...
Secondly, how about sharing a link to your blog? _________________

Thanks for the kind words Obenjo,
Unfortunately, I've been unable to generate any interest with literary agents so I've gone the self published route. And I don't have any print copies on Amazon because it hasn't seemed cost effective. However, I may rethink this very soon.
As for my blog, the link is http://don-doggett.blogspot.com I didn't give the link before because it's a writing blog and has almost nothing to do with Japan. Still, you might find it entertaining.
Many thanks again,
Don
p.s. Sorry about the blank post above. I don't know how to delete it. (blush) |

My understanding is that amazon takes a cut of the cover price, rather than actually "charge" you for it - that's been my experience with "Japan and Her People". _________________ Shop Amazon.com, support the Samurai Archives: http://amzn.to/wnDX2j

Thanks for sharing the link. I had started reading the sample back in November, but got sidetracked and never returned to it (through no fault of the writing--between work and holiday preparations, a lot can go by the wayside.) Now if I can only get to those 2009 SA Fiction contest winners. . . _________________ Over a Hedge |

Hi everyone,
It's always been much more important to me that my work be read than that I make money off of it, so I've decided to make Ghost of Iga free as a download. You can get it at http://tinyurl.com/yh45wv3
I hope you'll read it- It really is a good book, and it deserves better than to languish in obscurity.
regards,
Don |

I finished reading The Ghost of Iga yesterday. Thanks for making it available. It makes for an interesting character study of Kenjiro, an unconventional samurai who is afflicted by strange dreams. The text reads as though it were professionally edited, so if any members here were avoiding it because it is self-published, I can assure you that it is indistinguishable from a novel published by a big house. At a little over 50 000 words, it is closer to novella length which also makes it easier to manage reading on a computer screen. Given that Kenjiro and his family fight for the losing side in a series of battles with Oda Nobunaga, I suspect that Ghost might be of particular interest to Les. _________________ Over a Hedge |
