Although I think Twitter is a terrible fad that will eventually fade out or move on to something else, it's The Thing right now, so you can follow the Samurai Archives on Twitter @samuraiarchives -

So, Enjoy!

If you were cool, you'd have a SA Mixi page.

I don't really know what Twitter is all about, but is there an advantage to following SA on Twitter rather than following it on the Citadel Forum page? I doubt it

No advantage AT ALL. Don't worry--you aren't missing anything.

But for those who aren't on the SA Forum, having tweets about interesting topics going on here will help to hopefully draw more people in. It's the same thing as having the SA on Facebook, which from what I can tell, has a healthy following, but hasn't brought in tons of active members here.

So again, you aren't missing anything by not being on Twitter.

I agree with Obenjo - twitter is a fad and just another way to get exposure. Once the podcast goes live, it will just be a quick way to get feedback.

I've had a mixi account for about 3 years, just never really used it.

I had mixi for a short while, but (a) I couldn't find any of my actual friends, since everyone hides behind pseudonyms and an almost complete lack of profile information to help you find or identify anyone you're contacting, and (b) I was constantly inundated with messages from random people who only wanted to be my friend so they could practice their English.

Honestly, if you're in the States there's probably not much point to using it. And Ameth's answer is indicative of a major divide between concepts of the internet.

I don't *WANT* all my information out there for anyone to be able to find. This is why I'm not on Facebook. If you can't find your friends on Mixi, it's because they're not giving you their screenname.

I turn off anything and everything that makes your info public on any social media, I'm unsearchable in facebook, and only actual friends can access any of my personal information - in other words I'm also blocking acquaintances who I am "friends" with on FB. People who just throw all that stuff out there are frankly asking for trouble.

I don't suppose you can tell me how the heck to set it so twitter automatically shortens URLs? I hasn't worked yet, and so this time I just went to tinyurl to do it.

And feel free to RT it too Just Kidding

Haha, I already retweeted you.

I actually am not sure if you can shorten them when posting directly through twitter.com. Their directions seem to indicate to do what you did.

http://support.twitter.com/groups/31-twitter-basics/topics/109-tweets-messages/articles/78124-how-to-shorten-links-urls

I actually don't post using twitter directly. I post and follow others through a twitter client called Seesmic.

http://seesmic.com/

Seesmic is the top rated twitter client service. They have it for desktop computers as well as for mobile through apps for iPhone and Android and others. You can shorten url's directly in Seesmic and other twitter clients.

I use http://twitterfeed.com/ to automatically retweet my blog posts with shortened urls. It gives you a choice of which provider you wish to shorten with. As for twitter clients, yorufukuro does a good job if you have a mac and want the option of a Japanese or English interface.

If you've got some time to kill today try send your twitter icon off to battle. I didn't see any Crane's Wing or Fish Scales formations, but it did make for a fun time waster.
