Rumor of a new project by James Cameron. An alien sci-fi movie based on the Seven Samurai.

http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2009/12/10/exclusive-fantastic-voyage-is-the-secret-james-cameronshane-salerno-collaboration-youve-been-hearing-about/

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is known to be an epic science fiction adventure in the vein of "The Seven Samurai" involving a group of aliens and humans with various abilities who are brought together to save Earth.

That article appeared to be debunking the "Seven Samurai in Space" rumor and instead noting it was to be a remake of "Fantastic Voyage." At least that is what it looked like to me. Although I could imagine Mifune carrying around an oversized airtank to make up for his stowing away on the voyage and not being a real astronaut. I think this was covered somewhat in the cult film "Dark Star." Plus, surfing in space! (Forgive the nonsequitur(s)...)

Hasn't it already been done a while ago ?
With Robert Vaughn, John Saxon and George Peppard !

Battle Beyond the Stars

I found it very funny... but I was ten or eleven back then.

Very Happy

Good God, I remember that. I saw it as a kid and thought it was awful even then!

Yup. And it gave Sybill Danning the dubious distinction (along with Robert Vaughn) as being one of the only two actors to appear in TWO remakes of Seven Samurai.

Vaughn was in this, and, of course, the Magnificent Seven.

Danning was in this, and Hercules and the Seven Magnificent Gladiators (ugh).

The return of the Clooney
http://twitchfilm.com/news/2011/05/seven-samurai-remake-finds-a-director.php

Don't think space is an option anymore like 47 Ronin 2012 featuring Gandalf Kuranosuke ,Kira Smeagle and Horibe Baggin's this one will be set in some type of Middle Earth habitat.

Yes this is the Clooney project ,nice that they found a director who's sole claim to fame is some Ving Rhames straight to cable garbage.

They've already done this. It was called "The Magnificent Seven". If you take it out of Japan, it's no longer the Seven Samurai. Samurai = in Japan.

Apparently Ronin can travel to middle earth. But then, they are mobile by nature.

There's a wave rider joke in there somewhere, but it's too soon.

I watched that movie at least a dozen times when I was a kid.
