That's "Kusa no Moerou "being a 1979 Taiga Drama about Hojo Masako played by Iwashita Shima ,Matsudaira Ken plays Hojo Yasutoki and Chiba Shinichi is one of Yoshitsune's followers .
This was (and still is )one of the highest rated Taiga's of all time and has not been shown since its original 1979 broadcast due to several episodes thought to be lost .
Now those episodes have been found and the whole drama has been remastered .

It was the first Taiga to use modern dialect and won gobs of awards of course .

I have only seen the usual condensed version but this is a rare find indeed ,
Sadly for most of us you would have to live in Japan to watch this .
It airs on Jidai Geki Channel in Feb .

I saw it really enjoyed it. It was one of my first taiga. I do not remember that it used modern dialect, but perhaps that is why I understood and enjoyed it. Smile

Well, the Jidai Geki channel is something you won't have unless you live in Japan and have cable or sat TV. And you know, I just found a marvelous tool called Google that allows you to search the web. Truly an amazing invention. Cool

This month of course the Jidai Channel is all about ..
dare i say it "RYOMA! RYOMA!! RYOMA !!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Of course with a new Taiga ,they do have this rare 1942 film about Sakamoto that looks interesting .

I was told that Rom has a new Tome something about "Understanding Ryoma In English "I am no more the wiser on this one .
