For anyone who enjoyed the Japanese miniseries Jin (about the time displaced surgeon who ended up in Bakumatsu Japan) the sequel/continuation is supposed to start airing next month in Japan-April 17th, I think, stretching into June. It's probably my single favorite J-TV series, even including Taiga Dramas, and I'm really looking forward to it. I mean, what other program has a Samamoto Ryoma that's actually fun to watch?

This one should feature the Shinsengumi who will drop by to provide Dr Munekata with ample victims for him to practice his sewing chops .

NHK have Shinsengumi Keppuroku set to air on 4/6 ,saw a trailer last night and it looks pretty good, a young gumi who like to kill people, a far cry from Shingo and Co.
http://www.nhk.or.jp/jidaigeki/shinsengumi/.
Oh and Sozaburo will be in this looking for some Shinsenbooty .

Plot for season 2 has the good Doctor kidnapped by the Shinsenbooty and of course he performs some medical feats not known by Kyoto Dwellers circa Bakumatsu Era .

Doc also takes out Saigo's appendix (Oh Why ?,could have changed History ) seems not so much Ryoma in this one either .

Sometimes once is enough and it is hard to duplicate second time around and reports filtering from JP indicate that is very much the case with Jin 2 .

Oh well i was hoping they would not blow it ,guess not .

Just finished watching the set of episodes my wife sent-absolutely loved it! While it started off a bit slow and largely plowed ground already done in the original, it really picked up over the last five or so episodes. It also does the best job of tying up all the loose ends and providing a satisfying conclusion for any series I've seen. It did right by all the characters. What they ended up doing with Ryoma was brilliant, unexpected, and goofy at the same time. This was TV at its best, and I enjoyed it moreso than any of the Taiga dramas I've seen (which is all of them from the last 20 years with a few before that). I'm surprised some American producer hasn't stolen the idea and transferred the setting to the American Civil War.

I watched the first series that was fansubbed; I would really love to see this one. I guess it is a race; can I learn Japanese before they fansub this one? I agree on Ryoma; Uchino Masaaki is brilliant and my favorite Ryoma EVER!

Actually, I sold the first half of the series short-the (I think) third episode featured Jin getting thrown in jail and receiving the Hanzo the Razor treatment. Brutal stuff.

You can find "Jin II" on eBay right now; from the seller who says, "with GOOD English subs!" Wink
Subs are quite acceptable and the price was $27.50; shipping from the Far Side of the World took about 3 weeks. Really enjoying the series!

D'oh! Tempting, but I have to go drop about $750 on a local natural gas company tomorrow so I can have heat for the winter. Ugh. Heat, or entertainment? Hmmm...supposed to be a tough winter by the Farmer's Almanac. It is good to know this is available though!

Whatever happened to trudging out into the wilderness with an axe for some free firewood? Laughing
