I was wondering if folks have run across much ancient graffiti in Japan. I suspect that the medium (wood and ink, usually) was probably prohibitive--and I don't know if we've found much in castles (though I know we have the donor names carved on many of the stones).

So here is what I've found online so far:

http://matome.naver.jp/odai/2128192949470374801

http://d.hatena.ne.jp/Biokovo/20100520/p1

Thinking about it, I suspect that there might be a good deal of stuff up in the rafters of some temples, etc., given both their age and the tradition of trying to place pilgrimage stickers up on the high beams.

I'm curious if we have any of the more... colorful... graffiti like we find in Roman areas.
