Anyone know anything about Ogawa no Hotori? It was recommended to me via email from amazon.co.jp. Doesn't really look like my kind of movie, but who knows:

Yes i have mega high hopes for this one .

First (and last )it is another adaption of a Shuhei Fujisawa book and it is the third of a trilogy of films that can also be stand alone epics (or not )all three are set in the same area and revolve around female swordswomen .(Hana No Ato is the second and cant recall the first but it was a TV Movie unlike 2 and 3 which are actual films ).

Plot is ...A young sword wiz is ordered by his clan to kill another samurai (for what reason do not know ).To complicate things said doomed samurai happens to be married to the swordsman's sister ,and she is just as adept with the blade as our hero .

Without having seen it and based on the fact i am psychic i award it 5 shiruken .
Seriously it got very good reviews .

Hiya Lemon. Happy New Year! Yes, I am still alive & watching samurai movies and reading J-history. Wink

Hana no Ato was a real theatrical movie-- not made for TV. It was fairly enjoyable except for some annoying long takes focusing on character facial expressions. Based on what I saw in this film (seen it twice) & reading what you wrote, I am not sure all three films can be about the same character. Perhaps somebody who has the time, desire & energy can look into this in more detail.

Hi Obenjo nice to see you back from your travels .

Anyway the three films are set in the same village, (hmm must be a busy village ,kinda like that Port Charles in General Hospital ) and the lucky village boast's three different femme swordslinger's ,(wow! nothing like that ever happens in my village im moving ).

I have to find the name of the first film i am sure you posted on it a while back .

By the trailer it looks awesome, sure is MY kind of movie! Very Happy I'll buy it raw, but would love to see it subbed . . . woo-hoo, first new jidaigeki purchase of the new year!

(Yow! Got it coming from CDJapan shipping on the release date, but it cost a mint. Better be good!)

The Greys have been providing pretty crappy subtitles lately. Quality's definitely tanked.

Samurai DVD is doing one and semi newbie Ichiban is doing the other ,both have always been pedantic about translation and subs but to be honest have not seen any of their recent offerings .

Ah! You've given me hope! The stuff I'm referring to was mostly procured on e-Bay from the wilds of dubious latitudes . . . rather watch it raw than egregiously bad.
