You might have heard of the wacky myth that Jesus is buried in Japan. I certainly had. But what I did not know was that there is an actual site that one can visit, with signs explaining it, and burial mounds with giant wooden crosses...

I definitely want to go check this out myself...

Wow.

I hadn't heard about this one. Leaving aside the absurdity of the claims, I can only assume this is a product of the fervently nationalist agenda prevalent on Japanese scholarship in the 1930s. That it is still out there just has me shaking my head.

If it sells plush anthropomorphic animals and garners an entrance fee, it is well entrenched in Japan.

Do we really need to see Hello Kitty nailed to a small wooden cross with pins dangling from your keitai? Laughing

Yes-I'd buy one! Japan's already produced the first action figure that comes complete with a "women being crucified" accessory (from the way too cool Daimajin series of movies).

You guys never heard about that?
The Christ grave was made sometimes in 1900's, I believe.
Takeuchi documents which is known as forged historical records described Jesus died there.
Local people don't believe it of course but it's good to attract tourists so they are keeping it.
Even Israelis visit there and Israel government gave the Jerusalem stone.

Takeuchi documents
Kuki documents
Tsugarusoto Sangunshi 東日流外三郡誌
These are famous crazy forged historical records but some people still believe them like cult.

No, we've heard of it before. I remember hearing about it back in 1995 when I was first in Japan. Matter of fact, Ameth said:

Wow is all that can be said about this story. I did like that that Jesus comes to Japan, studies for 12 years, then goes back to Judea where suddenly his "Japanese brother" takes his place on the cross. Laughing At what point did Jesus accquire a Japanese brother? (unless it's not a literal brother but a metaphoric one Confused ) This is nuts!

EDIT: The post I'm referencing has been deleted. take the above as guidelines, and continue to discuss crackpot theories of random religious figures appearing in Japan.

How about we keep the broad sweeping generalizations of "faith" and "religion" out of this discussion, okay? This is a thread to discuss the belief/theory that Jesus visited/was in Japan, and it's relevant BECAUSE IT HAS TO DO WITH ANCIENT JAPAN, even in a completely tangential way. It's a theory--a crackpot one, one that deserves ridicule and mocking.

That's COMPLETELY different than taking a broad swipe at ANYONE who has a particular faith they worship. Whatever your feelings on religion in general, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR IT. BECAUSE SOME IDIOTS THINK JESUS WAS IN JAPAN IS NOT AN OPEN LICENSE TO START RELIGIOUS DISCUSSION, OR TO CHARACTERIZE PEOPLE WHO DO (OR DON'T) SHARE YOUR BELIEFS AS BETTER/WORSE THAN ANYONE ELSE.

LET ME BE CLEAR: KEEP ON TOPIC, AND GENERAL FEELINGS ON RELIGION AS A WHOLE OR ON SPECIFIC RELIGIOUS BELIEFS, EITHER FOR OR AGAINST, ARE NOT ON TOPIC. THIS IS YOUR FRIENDLY WARNING. AFTER THIS, THERE WILL BE NO WARNINGS, AND THINGS WILL NOT BE "FRIENDLY". THERE'S THIS WHOLE THING CALLED THE REST OF THE DAMN INTERNET IF YOU WANT TO PURSUE THAT LINE OF DEBATE. DON'T DO IT HERE.

I didn't see the post you deleted but I completely agree with the Lt. on keeping that type of discussion out of here. Thanks for staying on top of that Domer.
