Could you provide any more information?

The only clan with a manji for their kamon (crest) that's listed on the S-A list of crests is the Suda clan. But I've never heard of them... They're not a major clan involved in many major events that I would be familiar with.

For example, if the crest was a circled cross, then we'd know they were most likely Shimazu ships, and therefore likely depicting the invasion of Ryukyu, or some event otherwise associated with Shimazu control of Ryukyu, or Shimazu naval battles during the Sengoku.

So, if we're going to figure this out, we're going to need more information.

From Harimaya:

Quote:

So, at various times the Hachisuka, Odagiri, Oda (not that Oda), Asahi, Uesaka, Ono, Tsugaru, Torii, Asahina, Okabe, Hattori, and other families not listed also used it.

In other words, unless you can add more detail than simply the kamon on the sails, it's pretty indeterminate. Judging by the style, I'd say it's Edo period, which means it can also be depicting anything. I say that based on the trees in the background and the depiction of the shore and waves, which look similar to things done by early Edo period artists (and I'm in the middle of studying for my midterm on the subject). Perhaps a depiction of ships sailing to Korea? The large number of ships indicates military force, though that's just a guess. Bottom line, without more information all you will get are guesses.
