Hello!

I'm about to take the plunge and purchase this from Amazon.com, but I noticed that the DVD set is encoded as "region 2". I live in the U.S., so will I be able to watch the series in a DVD player purchased here in the States?
Just want to make sure before I spend the 95 or so USD.

Thanks for your help in advance!

No you need an all region DVD Player to play the disc on they are real cheap these days though you can pick one up for 25-50 bucks .

As to the film id pass ,the production is really bare bones ,its very talky the battle itself does not happen until the last 20 mins .The actual battle looks like 40 people doing a reenactment in the local park with about 5 horses ,it also has a jazzy musical score that seems out of place .

For the best Sekigahara pick up the 2000 Taiga Drama Aoi Tokugawa Sandai ,you can find subtitled Tv prints that will cost 50-75 bucks for 49 episodes of pure genius .

If you were a criminal you could install DVD43 on your computer and watch any DVD from anywhere, or use DVD43 in unison with burning software like DVD Shrink to burn it to a region free DVD. But I wouldn't know anything about that illegal method, so don't ask me.

Thanks for your help guys. I'll make sure to avoid any of those criminal activities like installing
DVD 43. Because after all, it's perfectly logical to pay 95 USD for something I couldn't watch. I'll also go for the Taiga drama...thanks again for your help!

Got my Toshiba Region-free on amazon.com for like 35 bucks . . . and I second the motion on the Aoi Sandai Taiga--one of the most enjoyable ever.

Cheers!

http://www.samuraidvd.com has it as does http://www.kurotokagi.com ,there are only 3 grey market guys that have this drama but these two will do all region and have no problem shipping to the UK .

A bit pricey at 150 bucks but it is really rare actually i did a check on all the grey marketeers and was very surprised that it is not really in circulation .

You will be happy with this one i would say its probably the best one i have seen .

Here is a Sekigahara clip of which Otani Yoshitsugu is going to die. Koji Takahasi plays the role of the leper. Just do not know what movie the clip comes from.

That is from the 1981 drama. According to JA wiki Otani was played by Takahashi Kôji for that. Also, I saw it at the time, and it fits in with my memory of it.

In the drama, Otani is about to go with Ieyasu, but then he remembers a tea meet in which both he and Mitsunari were guests. Otani drank out of the cup first and passed it on, but the other guests just made a show of drinking from the cup because he was a leper. But then Mitsunari actually put his lips to the cup and drank from it.

I enjoyed it although (or because) it was mostly talk with little fighting, even if it was extremely one-sided. Of course, most Japanese viewers can take that.
