I apologize if its not appropriate to ask such things on this forum - the mods are welcome to delete my comment if that's so.

But I am wondering if anyone knows where I can find a torrent (or by some other means) for the Shogun miniseries. Outside of things put out in the last few years, like Memoirs and Last Samurai, it's got to be one of the chief Japanese-themed films/series in the American popular consciousness... and from what I've heard it's pretty good.

Thanks!

Not sure if your curiosity is worth $57...
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000A2ZNX/vigor2-20

or £18...
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shogun-5-Disc-Box-Set/dp/B00012SZDG

I remember watching this on tv and my mother bickering about the casting of Shimada Yoko instead of Judy Ongg, a very popular singer/actress in Japan at the time, who declined the role.

Sweet. I didn't even consider looking at Amazon, b/c I just assumed it would be too expensive. I'll definitely look into getting that. Especially since you apparently save five quid when you buy it with another box set.

That has got to be the first time since coming to London from the States that I've found something to be cheaper here than the online US price Smile

I'm considering getting the mini-series on DVD - in fact I'll add it to my wish-list so I don't forget!

If you buy it, don't get it from Amazon - it's cheaper from DVD.co.uk. They even mail to the US for an extra £1.

Or you could order it from www.deepdiscount.com http://search.deepdiscount.com/search?w=shogun& they have a 20% of sale that ends tonight (June 16th) just enter one of the following code SUPERSALE when checking out. After the 20% discount it would put it at 46$ and shipping is free.

Sweet. Dvd.co.uk will save me a pound. No complaints there.

I feel weird to buy UK DVDs... but thank god they're the same region as Japan!

I ended up taking Mencius' advice and buying them it from DVD.co.uk. And, the DVDs work in my American computer's disc drive! I just hope it isn't silently using up my limited number of region switches without warning me.

I'm very excited to have found this at all, let alone for so cheap. Just thought I'd let you know it arrived today, and thank you for your advice and help!

(And yes, yes, I've been put in my place about just how fictional it is. ^_^ I really do need to learn the details better of that period of events.)

For anyone interested, the entire 9-hour series is now apparently available on YouTube:
