She's the Japanese Brienne of Tarth?

The battle scenes look well done, though of course [insert Nagashino wasn't like that rant here].

Falls in love and escapes to live with Mitsuhide...

Huh? WTF?? I don't get it

So, Honno-ji was a lover's spat?

I know this was was a book and a Takarazuka play before the Fuji TV Special and its amusing to have a female Nobunaga .But is there a reason she has a mustache ? (16th Century steroids !!!) . Still looks better than that Ooku film and tv series though .

As far as Nagashino judging from the trailer , it looks like another variation on the Takeda being mowed down by matchlocks again .Interesting i found two films that feature the battle, The River Fuefukigawa (1960) and Kaze To Niji To Toride (1961 adapted from the book by Yasushi Inoue ) that though depicting the use of firearm's actually depict Nagashino as a battle rather than a firing squad .
As much as i love Kagemusha pretty much every depiction of the battle since goes with the Kurosawa version of events .Though Kurosawa may not have been the originator as the 1973 Taiga Drama Kunitori Monogatari an adaption of the book by Ryotaro Shiba may have been the first to take the "hail of lead "approach .

It does sort of put you off her ,mind you those Takarazuka girls have a thing for facial hair ,Yuki even played Rhett Butler once .

Well, she NEEDS the 'stache. The show's all about her being a woman but pretending to be a man ala Uesugi Kenshin. Just slap a mustache on a woman and no one will ever be able to tell the difference.

Something I see in Japanese and Chinese movies is the ambiguity of gender identification. How many movies have you seen where the noble woman dresses as a boy (or man) and no one is supposed to notice? The actresses are generally beautifully feminine. Some hilarity often ensues. Too, sometimes men are hiding as women, often comedic roles, but, some dramatic and again no one notices. Now some may not be able to tell the difference, I've seen this happen in Pat Pong (lady boys), but, come on. Just saying. John

What about Shakespeare? In As You Like It, Twelfth Night, and Cymbeline a girl disguises herself as a boy, and several men are disguised as a woman in the farce Merry Wives of Windsor. As for history, several men escaped disguised as women--Bonnie Prince Charles Stuart of England (the Young Pretendor) and Emperor Nijô during the Heiji Disturbance. Also I have a vague memory that Ishida Mitsunari disguised himself as a woman during the 1599 attempt on his life.

They just conducted a raid based on the precedent of their ancestor in the 47 Ronin. They weren't playing the 47 Thugs. Though that would have been immensely more entertaining...

Unlike modern movies with fit, done up, and well groomed men and women, I'd imagine premodern grimy dirt farmers, men and women, with missing teeth, premature aging grimy faces, and dirty clothes, probably weren't easy to tell apart at a distance Just Kidding

It seems to be a nice big budget production , Owari told me Uchino channels his Yamamamoto Kanusuke role over to Mitsuhide .
Anyway Ichiban has subtitled it and put it out on a 2 DVD set .
