I have a baaaaaaaadddddd feeling about this book. It appears the writer has no previously published work, so how can he bill himself as an 'acclaimed author'? Unless there's a bestseller list for ad copywriting. |

Tony Bryant & Chris Glenn: please report to the steel cage for a battle of the Sekigahara book authors. As you both are armor heads, please come suited up & ready to rumble!
BTW: the SA Bookmakers say that the odds are 3 to 1 in favor of Tony, despite the Osprey handicap. _________________

Course ya can! I got mine from Akira Kurusawa, ceptin' I'm a first degree black belt with the hanabi garland. And I'm a certifiably acclaimed carouser-just ask Benji. _________________

I can attest to whatever Brick says. BTW, he still owes me for running out a sake bar claiming he needed to make an 'emergency shrine maiden call' and sticking me with the bill. He said the 7,500 yen per ichigo of premium hand crafted sake (he drank 4) made him feel a need to get in touch with 'somethin' holy'. _________________

Tatsu,
I know Chris well. He has written several articles for Rekishijin Magazine and the Yomiuri fish wrap as well. I have seen his articles online. Also he know a lot about the media as well. I think he just had a fifteen minute promo on his book. He also is in a lot of contact with the big shots such as Owada Tetsuo. Let us see how the book goes. I hope it is well written and informative. _________________ You'll Never Walk Alone!

Well, that's good to hear. Too often the reenactor/martial artist crowd takes the Marc DeCascos 'glorious warrior' approach, and the copy he wrote to promote the book sounds way too sensationalistic-of course, that's what sells books to a mass market audience. Maybe he can do what Hawley did and walk the tightrope between making things entertaining and keeping things as accurate and balanced as possible.
Although next time you talk to him, I'd be interested in hearing just what the hell 'black belt in chanbara swordfighting' is all about. It sounds like something Stephen Hayes would be peddling. |

Pretty sure "black belt in chanbara sword fighting" is meant to be a joke. _________________ "When the Portuguese first landed upon Japan’s shores in 1543, they stroked their handlebar mustaches and said, “You know, that whole honorable swordsman thing is working well for you, but what you really need is our brand of GUNshido.” They then shot the word “PORTUGAL” into the side of the Emperor’s palace." - Omri Petitte, PC Gamer. |

While I was in my hospital bed watching Kanteidan Nandemo Otakara the other night, the author of this Sekigahara book, Chris Glenn, was on having an Edo period suit of armor appraised. It was valued over what he paid on the internet auction for it, but just watching him made me feel..."icky". The guy is a total cheeseball. My wife then sent me a text saying her and her mom also saw him and said, "oooh...he's so bizarre!". So this kind of fit in with the fake descriptions of black belts for kendo and chanbara sword play that he boasts about.
His book was supposed to come out in the spring, but hasn't. I don't think he has a publisher. I was talking to another forum member, and he said that this was going to be a Kindle release, which in my opinion means, EPIC FAILURE.
Here's the guy's website.

Sorry Les, I know you like him, but I am not a believer. Seems he's oversold himself and he just kind of grossed me and my family out by being so cheesy. _________________

Sorry, just have been super busy with work and that's the main reason for my few and far between posts these last couple of years. But yes, I was in the hospital for an ear infection which took a bad turn for the worse. I got out yesterday and therefore while recuperating at home, have a little time to play on the SA. _________________

Obenjo,
I am just as disappointed as you are. From what I know so far is the editing has been the main issue. I have not heard anything about the book of late except the editing issues. Hopefully, it will done soon. _________________ You'll Never Walk Alone!
