Hi,

During the Edo-period, the shogunate had the rule that every daimyo were forced to visit shogun for some period of time. How was the visitation (or the rule) called in japanese? I remember there being a specific term, quite simple one, but the simple ones always elude me...

thank you in advance!

Thanks, guys!
One more question - the wives of daimyo had to stay in Edo at all times? What concentration of desperate housewives then Smile

From somewhere i remember that the rule had something to do with popularization of naginata as women's weapon... Perhaps I'm off-track here, but was that part of the case?

I think the English term is something like "Alternate residence".
