Can anyone tell me more about police forces?

I found just this link with some useful information:
The Tokugawa police forces
http://www.e-budokai.com/hibuki/police.htm

Thank you

This is an article/notes called "No Sleep, No Rest: A Survey of the Pre-Modern and Meiji Era Police System."
http://www.shinsengumihq.com/NSNR.htm

There's a bibliography at the bottom of the page and some of the books listed are specifically about the police system.

HTH!

Yoriki and Doshin in Haccho-bori

Yoriki and Doshin took bath and hair dressing every morning.
Their hair style wasn't like Bushi nor Chonin.
It's called "Haccho-bori's Ginnan"

As far as Edo-era police go, I recommend (for those who read Japanese/can access it) Sasama Yoshihiko's Edo Machi-bugyosho jiten (江戸町奉行事典). It's very thorough and covers everything from the administration to the uniforms to the prison system. Even rather gruesome diagrams of torture methods!
