Greetings all,

As I promised many months ago, here are images of my sword. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask.

[EDIT: I re-uploaded the pictures since I failed to uncheck the "resize image" option when I originally put them on ImageShack.]

Nice looking sword you got there.

Do you happen to have suggestions for cleaning the wrap on the handle? I have a Paul Chen sword (the shinto katana) and the wrap has gotten a little dirty over the years. The handle doesn't have any major grime just a little hand oil and what not. I'd like to think that there is a way to clean it with out taking the wrap off of the handle, but I don't want to risk destroying the ray skin beneathe it. Any suggestions are more than welcome.

SicklyBug,

It all depends on the material used for the tsukaito. Personally, I would not bother with cleaning it. The dirt and oils from your hands are not all that terrible for the fabric and may even help keep the same "healthy." Besides, the only really important part is the blade itself.

Y'know, Matt, that's not a sword. It's a piece of crap. You should have it broken up and melted down.

Tell ya what, I'll make it easy for you.

Send it to me, and I'll get rid of it for you.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

Very Happy

Tony

shikisoku,

Thank you. Smile I had my former iaidou no sensei take a look at it not long before he passed on. The lack of signature made it difficult to identify, but he figured it was forged in the late shintou or early shinshintou period (sometime around the late 1700s or early 1800s).

AJBryant,

You know, since you are such a trustworthy person, I think I will follow your advice. Be sure to wait out by your mailbox for it. And while you are at it you might as well hold your breath too, it will make the arrival feel that much better. Smile
