I've listed a batch of two Manga for sale on Ebay to do some fundraising for the costs of the forthcoming Journal of Japanese history. These are two manga that deal with the bakumatsu period. From the Ebay description:

These are two Japanese Bakumatsu era themed manga - "Sono Toki Rekishi ga Ugoita - Bakumatsu Edition", which covers seven historical events from the Bakumatsu era of Japanese history, including the now legendary Ikedaya Incident, in which the Shinsengumi killed and captured Choshu loyalists at the Ikedaya inn, the assassination of Sakamoto Ryoma, and "The Last Battle of Hijikata Toshizo". The "Sono Toki" manga series is based on the NHK television series of the same name which dramatically examines seminal moments in Japanese history from a purely historical perspective. This manga was published in 2003, and is 504 pages.

The Second manga is "Hidamari no Ki", a fictionalized account of events during the Bakumatsu period by Tezuka Osamu, with stories about Henry Heusken, Townsend Harris, and other notable Bakumatsu era figures. This manga was published in 2002, and has 336 pages. There are some minor stains on the outside edge, but it is in good condition. Both manga have colorful dust jackets which are in good condition, and are Japanese imports.

I will be selling off at least one more Japanese history related batch after this auction finishes. Help support the Journal!

Ok, there are a little more than 2 days left in my first fundraising effort - In particular the "sono toki..." manga is a great item based on historical sources rather than historical fiction. So, let's raise some money! Laughing

Ok, I have set up the second fundraiser auction. This is an auction for 3 Sengoku Daimyo related manga - Oda Nobunaga, Hojo Soun, and Takeda Shingen. The Oda Nobunaga manga is the first issue of a series and is also a first edition, in great condition. Takeda Shingen is issue #5, and is 20 years old, but in good condition, with some signs of wear and age. Hojo Soun is probably the most impressive (to me at least), it is a stand-alone issue (and first edition), which covers Hojo Soun's life from the Onin war onward. It has great artwork, and is from the series "Sengoku Busho Retsuden". All three are from Japan and in Japanese. Here is the auction URL for more info and for bidding:

Here is the third ebay fundraiser auction:

Battle Royale / Azumi - 3 issues.

These are three imported Japanese Manga that are based on the Japanese movies "Battle Royale", and "Azumi". There are two issues of "Azumi" - Issue #5 and #7.

Battle Royale is the first issue of the series that follows a highschool graduating class forced to fight to the death, and is in excellent condition, with a full color dust jacket in great condition and is 209 pages. This issue was published in 2001.

The issues of Azumi are #5 and #7, and are in good condition, with some minor shelf wear on the dust jackets. Both issues have full color dust jackets, and were published in 2003, and have approximately 206 pages each. Azumi follows the story of a female assassin during the Sengoku period of Japanese history.

All three are Japanese imports and are the original Japanese language editions.
