Hi, I've never really posted anything to this site before, though I have been here many times, and I have a rather small request. Does anyone know of any reputable sites in which I would be able to either learn how to make, or purchase, SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) qualified armor, and period clothing? I ask this because I, and a few friends, have chosen to take a feudal Japanese persona for medievalism, and have had...difficulty finding sites that can show how to make armor, and moreso, find period garb (especially footwear!!). If anyone can assist, I will be most gracious, and if not, I still thank you for any time you may have taken.

If you get in a fight with a knight, let us know who wins, OK? Wink

Ashigaru,

I refuse to be, in any way, responsible for the results of anyone taking your advice and Mythbusterizing this debate.

On this japanese site, you can find how to make an armor. There's even downloadable patterns ! Don't worry, it's written in english !

http://www.fsinet.or.jp/~usa/indexus.html

As far as costumes are concerned, our feodal Japan live action roleplay games site provides patterns for a lot of kind of costumes ! The site is in french, but this must not be so big a problem to use a pattern.

As soon as I have time, I should redraw the pattern I created to make my own armor.

(How many time have I posted this photo on this forum ?...maybe should I take other ones Wink )

Wow, thanks for so many responses. Though I do have to say, most of the knights I know/fought have defeated me, but that's only because of a lack of practice/experience! Thanks so much, though does anyone know of a place to get actual period zori or waraji?

Um, you mean replicas, right? Because I think an actual waraji made in the 1500's would have disintegrated by now.

It'd probably be easier to make them, though. there are plenty of websites out there (Google is your friend) with explanations.

On an unrelated note....how many of you would go around wearing these babies in Japan?

When my host sister taught another girl the phrase "daikon ashi", we reciprocated with telling her about "cankles". Either way, not something I'd advertise.

Agree--"wanting daikon ashi" is DEFINTELY not something I'd advertise. It's kind of like "riding a moped". Just Kidding

"Wanting Ashi's daikon," on the other hand, is perfectly acceptable. Nay, it's to be expected!

...

OK, even I'm a little ashamed of that one...

It's totally off-topic, but that last picture reminds me...

This is a photoshop I did on Something Awful ages ago. I can't remember the theme, but it was something about alternate TV or alternate news or somesuch.

I suppose it would be easier to make my own, if necessary. I was just wondering if there was some obscure site that people knew of, seeing as this would be the place to ask.
