Inoue Genzaburo was a member of Shinsengumi and died at the battle of Toba-Fushimi.
Researchers from Hino city include descendant of Genzaburo have located the place where his head was buried.

When he was killed, his 12 years old nephew Taisuke tried to take his head away from enemies.
But the head was too heavy so Taisuke decided to bury the head at a temple near by.
Taisuke told the name of the temple to his wife but she had forgotten the name.
One day a local history researcher asked her the temple's name and she said "Gonjo-ji"
Gonjo-ji was same name as the temple in front of Inoue's house.
Everybody thought she's confused.

Last year, when a Hino city volunteer guide visited Yodo where Genzaburo was killed, he/she found the temple Gonjo-ji.
Then the Shinsengumi researchers in Hino city formed the research tour to Yodo.

Currently there is a Udon restaurant on the spot where the head was buried.
When the researchers visited there the restaurant owner didn't understand what was going on.
But later he realized it was about Shinsengumi and they were looking for the head.
He told them on the phone that he and his wife had seen same weird dream which "a kid was looking for something".
And his father told him to research history of the palce many times.

Thanks for sharing shikisoku. Rather creepy isn't it? My wife insists that souls or ghosts or something of the like walk around in Japan. She totally 100% believes that. As for me? Well no I don't. But to hear of tales such as this is enough for some goosebumps.

very interesting story! I love genealogical work especially when it is done by one of the descendants of the one in question.
