no and I know you're gonna say I shouldn't be teaching if I don't. My last student was when I was 17 and I am 21 now and I've given up trying to teach. |

Hiro Katsumoto,
I do not often berate people unless I have justifiable cause and, as of yet, I do not. I was not asking in order to set you up or anything like that. I was merely curious since that statement was left open to interpretation.
Peace,

forgive me, when I meet new people I am a bit weary of new people and I misread your statement. Again, please forgive me. |

Hiro Katsumoto,
Daijoubu, man. No need to worry about it. That is the fatal flaw of the written word, the difficulty to properly express inflection.

Hiro Katsumoto,
I do that so there is no mistaking whom I am addressing, especially if I do not use the quote option to cite a specific statement. Plus I sign off with my name just out of habit, much like a couple of other members on here.
Peace,

That's a good point - unlike the Delphi forum, this one doesn't give you any indicaton who you are replying to. But I usually quote who I'm replying to in order to keep it clear. And as a courtesy I usually edit out the junk that I am not directly replying to. |

kitsuno,
I just have not yet gotten into the habit of using the quote tool. Old habit from other forums I suppose. Either that or it is frustration from the listserv setup where the same text would be seen over and over and over...
Peace,

Yes. They are all taught in the same dojo as different classes. We study Aiki-Ken (pretty much a series of katas formed by Morihei Ueshiba). And Iwama style jojutsu. We also do some knife work.
At one point we did have iaido (I don't know what happened.)
But my dojo also has Zen training, Japanese language
and they are starting Ikebana next month.
check it out.

maikeruart,
Sounds groovy. It is rare to find a school that actually goes into the language and other cultural aspects. Best of luck with your training and ganbatte!

Hiro Katsumoto,
Understood. Do you have instructor certification in any of the arts that you have studied?
Peace,

I became a better teacher due to my training in teaching physical education. Being trained in how to pass knowledge to another individual is a completely separate issue as opposed to simply aquiring knowledge. I can tear up the dual teaching certificates that I spent four years getting and living off soup and McDonalds, but the training itself is gold to me
Unfortuneately I do not always see teaching principles taught along with rank advancements. i do have one book I rep on teaching martial arts by a man with a MA in Education. He's a very good martial artist and teacher

4 years of Jujutsu
and now few months of Aikido at an Aikikai dojo.
im lucky cause, in my Aikido's dojo, my sensei use(i think the only one in Milan where i live) the ancient system of graduation,Menkyo instead of the modern era Kyu/Dan system..
There are not fixed examinations, no competitions, no dan goal on your mind, only the porpouse and the passion to do Aikido for yourself.. |

I belive one of my Sensei's goal is too create a Japanese cultural center. We offer
Aikido, Zen studies, Japanese Language, Ikebana and Yoga.
Our main dojo in Chicago has alot of things to offer

Heres an affiliated Zen center.

Hometutor,
I agree entirely. I have seen far too many "teachers" who do not know how to teach. I was forunate in that in order to obtain an instructor certification (which is separate from a black belt) in my jujutsu school I had to go through a considerable period of learning how to teach. The head instructor of my school was much like you in that he had a college degree in sports education.
平和,
