Laughing You realize that the low-brow vs high-brow discussion really isn't in regards to how ukiyo-e and kabuki were perceived by the various classes of Edo period society but more of how a discussion or a quiz on these topics appeals (or not) to the average SA Forum-goer and where his/her interests lie. And I admit, I am a cultured kawaya dweller. Wink

I am currently reading a work on Zen'ami 善阿弥, who held a close relationship with Ashikaga Yoshimasa (he was his master gardener), despite his kawaramono 河原者 status (outcast status).

According to JAANUS, the taking of the 阿弥 characters from 阿弥陀 denotes a connection with the Ji Sect 時宗.
