He apparently gave due warning:

"暴れるから、よろしく"

And I had primo tickets to see this punk ass perform on Jan 4. Tickets were refunded and we are now going to different kabuki performance.

Ebizo is truly a flake, but a gifted one.

Well, I heard that his stand in for the Kyoto performances is considered better than Ebizo, so discerning theatre-goers got (or are getting) a treat. (This is from my kyogen performing friends). In the New Year performances, isn't Tamasaburo 'standing in' for him? That in itself will be a treat. I presume by 'standing in' they mean as star performer - so the actor taking Ebizo's role may yet again be better than Ebizo.

Mind you, I sympathize if you got tickets especially to see him.

27-year-old man indicted for assaulting kabuki actor Ebizo

Ah come on. Just a couple of dudes getting into a scuffle after a night of drinking. What's wrong with that? Why don't the authorities cut a little slack? Just Kidding
