Congrats to all involved, including those who might not have placed - congrats on writing a complete and coherent (and presumably enjoyable!) piece of fiction. It's not as easy as it looks.

Thanks, y'all! Very Happy I spent a lovely evening enjoying the posted stories. Reading on the obenjo Just out of curiosity, I wonder how many stories were entered in the contest overall?

Seven stories in total. In theory, I should have them all up by tomorrow. If anyone has any feedback or comments on the stories, I'm sure the authors would be interested, by the way, so feel free.

As one of the judges, I'd like to add that this was the first year I can recall all of the submissions being solid-there weren't any dogs this year.

It was a tough one to judge this year. I think the stories were well written, that each judge had their own favorites. The judges choices and reasoning was so unique that getting a unanimous winner was difficult. It was a process akin to 12 angry men. J/K

Finished the last of those posted thus far and am honored to be included in such fine company! bow

Kitsuno, since there are only three more, any chance of them being posted somewhere as well?

Also, as Kitsono mentioned and at least speaking for myself, I'm open to and eager for ANY criticism (constructive or otherwise Just Kidding ). Always looking to improve.

My main concern with the story, was the main character. I felt he was not fleshed out at all, so as the reader I could not connect with him, or feel I should give a damn. I don't mean just give a name, just give details about him that allow a connection. simply saying the assassin every few lines just does not work artistically, mix it up a bit. The whole eye thing was fun, sort of a Troma feel to it, I am a fan of action in short stories, especially fun gory action.

Thanks maikeruart!
Yeah, I understand your point about the disconnect; there is certainly a back-story with him, but it was difficult to get into that at all with a short story. I am working on fleshing him out more for future adventures.

It does not have to be a back story in the case of a short story. How about this for a challenge, in a paragraph describe how he is an assassin without saying "hes an assassin".

Just (FINALLY!) finished the illustration to go with "Leftovers," and thought I'd share:

Cool! Very nice! I especially like the artificial aging done to the face of the picture.

Thanks Tatsu, the aging was the last step which itself took about three days of tweaking before I was content with the effect. It was a monster to finish with MANY other things going on peripherally (including accidentally wiping my ipad of ALL documents...), but I'm proud of the end result.
