Hi all.

I've been advised by a friend that Muneyuki Myôchin, last master armorer of this legendary family, has passed away on January 17 2011.

No heirs left, no students. A loss for whole humankind.

And the end of a legend.

Carlo, you mean that no more Myochins are making armour, right?

(There are/were families of Myochin throughout Japan.)

Some months ago, this past winter, I met a young Myochin who makes wonderful swords. He brought one to our NBTHK meeting in Tatsuno Castle. His father, who is something like the 56th master in the family, was still making iron windchime chopsticks for dangling in the wind.

I can get some more detail, if you are interested.

From what I have been told, Muneyuki Myochin is not actually a descendant of that family, but, adopted the name in respect for the tradition. He advised and worked at one time with Akira Kurosawa. John
