Apologies for the necromancy, but has anyone (who may or may not have already tried Shogun 2 and/or the Rise of the Samurai DLC pack) played the most recent standalone expansion, Fall of the Samurai?

I've found it pretty interesting so far; the map has ten new provinces (including five in south-western Ezo), the pace of the campaign has been changed (each turn now spans two weeks, so seasons last much longer in game terms) and the array of new land and sea options certainly make their presence felt more and more the further you wade into the campaign.

(I do wonder if they will make some more clans available via DLC; as my avatar suggests, I wouldn't mind trying to start off as the Matsumae, though I probably shouldn't bet on it happening any time soon, if ever.)

Oh, and the OST that comes with the special edition on Steam is great!

Yep. My review of it will be up on the Shogun-ki (the SA's blog) this weekend. The link will be posted on one of the sticky threads on this forum.

As far as clans other than the 6 that are there in the base game, there are three available as preorder bonuses that will likely be released for outright purchase at some point-Obama, Saga, and Tsu Han. Sendai Han is also more than likely to be released at some point.

Quick take: Great as a game. Total fantasy as a simulation.

Yeah, I saw Sendai listed in the Encyclopedia; Tsu came as the bonus faction in my edition of the game.

One thing I was wondering; can anyone here make out the death poem spoken at 2:13-2:20 in this clip?

I picked up all three; Saga is probably my favorite of the lot, but then again, I enjoy playing as the Shogunate more than the Imperialists. Matsumae would be an interesting choice-maybe it could get some sort of bonus that would make declaring yourself a Republic somewhat easier.

Where did you get the Saga and Obama clans from? I haven't seen any DLC options for FotS on Steam so far.

Bought a retail copy, a copy from Steam, and a copy from Sega. Let the Steam copy download and then plugged in the codes for Saga and Obama from retail and Sega.

Ah, I see; thanks for the clarification.

By the way, for those interested, the IPhone/IPad version of Total War: Shogun 2 came out today...it's called Total War Battles: Shogun. It's more like a Civilization game with no 'real time battles' on display, and is pricey for an app at $6.99. It is pretty big, though, for an Iphone game at about 250 megs. I'm downloading it now and will have more on it this weekend.

I'm hoping the Creative Assembly might consider doing a PlayStation Vita edition of TWB:S; I don't have an iOS or Android device, and Sony's new handheld would do with a few more apps on it at this point...

So far it's much better than I had anticipated. It has elements of a building game, a puzzle game, a tower defence game, and a tactics game. Cheesy voice acting too.

To get the Sendai faction in Fall of the Samurai, you have to beat the campaign in the new Iphone game 'Total War Battles: Shogun'. You'll then get a code to unlock the Sendai faction on Steam.
