I am posting this because the Yamato Kingdom will feature in this drama .
It starts next month in Korea so airs here on KBS World around August.

Here are some pics from the production .

Note the Women Warriors !.

Its slated to air on Saturday and Sunday Nights and will run 80 episodes though that will probably increase to 150 if it does well in the ratings .

Here is a question considering in some areas it bumps heads with Gou which would you watch of the two drama's ?.

The top ten reasons I'd still be watching Gou...

10) 80-150 episodes is just too much.
9) Japan will no doubt be marginalized and ridiculed in the Korean drama, whereas Gou, as lame as it may be (and I'm just now getting them so I really don't know what I'll think of it-hey, I LIKED Ryomaden) is all Japan-all the time.
8 ) As an extension of the above, I don't need to be shown how Korea invented everything and anything worthwhile got its start there.
7) I'd rather watch Jin II than either of them.
6) The Women Warriors might be the wild card that would change my mind.
5) Tivo and watch them both.
4) I am afraid even glancing at "The Great King Gwanggaeto" will cause my inbox to be flooded with Seoul Selection spam mail.
3) The Horse Rider theory is crap.
2) You'd never see Brick McBurly in a Korean drama. Well, except for 'The Immoral Yi Sun Shin'.
1) I'll never watch a Korean drama EVAR just to protest the series that dogpiled on the hero worship for the egotistical, overrated Admiral Yi. Wink

BREAKING NEWS: As reported by KBS Television earlier today, Korea invented the Samurai Archives and its Forum. The Webmaster, C.E. West, is really known as "Chul-Eunji Seojjok" in his native country, the Democratic Peoples' Republic of Korea. He is known to enjoy watching yak films with fellow fan and comrade, Dear Leader, JI Kim.

My fear for this is 'Dae Jo Young' redux ,As such i hated DJY.
I dislike the lead actor he was terrible as Yeon Gae So Mun in the 06 fall of Goguryeo Drama .

One of the writers has only romantic dramas on his resume but the other co authored 'The Immortal Yi Soon Shin ',Which by the way gets a rebroadcast this summer on KBS World .

So its down to women warriors for me .

I too liked 'Ryomaden' but 'Gou'is the first Taiga i have found really awful even worse than Musashi and that took some beating.

Is it even possible? Laughing Those words fill me with apprehension for Gou...

Of course, Musashi did have Uchiyama Rina, so it wasn't a 100% loss.

I absolutely hated Ryoma-den and hate Gõ more by a factor of 100 squared. I gave up after episode 6 or 7 haven"t gone back.

I gave up on Go in the middle of the first episode. Laughing It is kind of sad though that a taiga drama can go so flat quickly.

It's got that damn Nodame chick in the lead! How could anyone have thought it would do well. I hate it and I haven't seen one episode. I've said it before, I'll say it again, the only reason those movies are even watchable in the first place is that they seem to be on every cross-Pacific flight I take, and I have nothing else to do so I might as well suffer through the parts with Nodame in order to catch glimpses of Becky playing a hussy.

It seems the Japanese disagree with you guys about "Gou"--checked out the ratings and it's actually doing pretty well. Quite high, in fact, for the Honnoji episode.

It's what happens to the ratings after Honnoji- which was the 5th episode. Everybody I talk to here also thinks this taiga is very bad. But even a highly disliked taiga is probably still going to win the ratings in this time slot. The other networks have a fairly weak offering in this time slot on Sundays as they are gun-shy on taking on NHK's premier weekly program.

In addition to what Obenjo said, I'll point out that ratings != good. For evidence, I submit every reality show ever.

Nodame Girl killed it for me ,She is a horrible actress, Complete with her shameless screen hogging and constant screeching .

It seemed every scene she shared with Ms Miyazawa she would try her hardest to compete for the spotlight to the point where she was just irritating .

Point taken. <sigh> I "killed my television" some years ago as I refused to pay for that kind of garbage; which is why I now seek my own content on DVD's.

I think where the Taiga producers have taken a wrong turn in recent years is the dreaded old syndrome of Art becoming self-aware. As in, shameless transparent pandering to its perceived target audience. This of course assumes that anything on anyone's TV could be described as "Art" to begin with; but I'd allow the older Taiga like Sanada Taiheiki,Toshiie to Matsu or Hojo Tokimune to wear that label. At least, they're more than up to the standards of anything produced by the BBC.

Even when the story lags and drags, I can stick with it for the sake of the visual feast of the sets and costumes; which is why I couldn't sit through Ryomaden, where even that was lacking.

Just ordered Raiou for kicks; waiting avidly for Jin II and daring to dream it's as good as the first run.

I haven't watched a taiga from start to finish since Komyo ga Tsuji, which I really liked because it followed the old format.

I agree on Komyo that was the last great Taiga ,since than it has been a downhill slide to abject banal fodder.

Poor Komyo it had to follow three less than Taiga's so not many watched it.

Anyway to the topic at hand
http://enjoyjap.egloos.com/1632147

The current Sageuk being Geunchogo is really good so lets hope for Gwanggaeto .

I have no problem with 80-200 episode drama's if they
are as good as "Emperor Wang Guhn"and "Age Of Warriors" both being 200 episodes for the former and 158 episodes for the later as both are two of the finest historical dramas i have ever seen .
Like Tats my preference is Japanese but those two are up with the best .
