You mean it's not about Yukimura's wife or concubine or someone else like that? It's actually about Yukimura? Rolling Eyes

Speaking of which, I've been watching "Gou: Himetachi No Sengoku" all week. I know a lot of people on here didn't care for it, but I find it very enjoyable. It's not the best Taiga EVAR by any means, but much more entertaining than the wretched 'Musashi' or 'Nobunaga: King Of Zipangu'.

Also watched a couple of episodes of the very first Taiga, 'Hana no Shogai' from 1963 along with the Yoshitsune one from 1966. Not bad at all, besides not being in color, pretty much on a par with much later Taiga and the budgets look bigger than a lot of the late 80's/early 90's ones.

You know, I'm glad you mentioned this, because I just finished up the first 23 episodes of "Gou" last week; waiting now for the rest to become available. The somewhat "lighter" take on the Sengoku in this series I found to be greatly enjoyable, and the portrayals of Nobunaga and Rikyu in particular have depth and interest. Additionally, I enjoyed the theme of Chacha's conflicted obligation to avenge her mother and step-father a good, believeable storyline not portrayed in any previous Taiga.

While they frequently play Hideyoshi for laughs, that's probably not far off the view many of his contemporaries might have had of him; the idea he overplayed his own character so much he actually became a somewhat ridiculous self-parody. You can easily see that some might have taken him lightly--which was their misfortune!

Waiting to see how Gou handles Hidetada and his father . . . and they left us on a cliffhanger, with the next episode involving Rikyu's seppuku.

Want more!

Gou was cut short because of the earthquake it runs only 46 Episodes .
What they sadly did not cover to much was the animosity between Gou and Kasuga ,It is there but not so much as in Aoi .
I think the drama suffered because they had to do a lot of rewrites .
It does pick up for the second half and Juri Ueno is not so overbearing as she was in earlier episodes ,The real star of the drama is Rie Miyazawa as Chacha .

The guy who plays Sanada Yukimura is great i wish he had a more predominant role .Though it is not as good as most Taiga's it still beats anything else on the box and i would rather watch this than Chushingura .

Oh well that was short lived seems Yukimura has been put aside for a latter date now we have Kyoko which seems to be some fantasy crap about Neanderthals .

Getting sick of altering this thread as it keeps changing but the Neanderthal drama has gone .

Kazunari Ninomiya from Arashi ok ok boy band alert is tipped for the lead and yes he was in Letters From Iwo Jima .
Rather than blab out what it is like the last two i will let you guess .
Here are your clues .
(1) Its a Sengoku Drama .

(2) The character could be considered a bad guy .

(3)Hideyoshi did not like him and vice versa .

Yes it is AKECHI MITSUHIDE ...Drum roll ....

I hope they do not change their minds again .

Gracia Hosokawa will not feature really save as a minor character and considering next years Yae's Cherry (my name for it ) is a women's drama they are probably saving her for a future subject .

We can probably expect Akechi to be a sensitive artistic type who was just not understood by his lord Nobunaga who seemed to delight in being a schoolyard bully to poor Akechi . Finally after seeing his good buddy the Shogun chased out of Kyoto and causing his poor saintly mother to be offed Akechi snaps .

Would be nicer if we got" oooohh look he is staying at Honnoji with only a few hundred guards ,hee hee what an opportunity ".

Anyway second time around for Akechi as the lead character in 1973's Kunitori Monogatari he shared the spotlight with Saito Dosan and Nobunaga .

Hoping after Sanada Yukimura and the Neanderthal thing NHK will not vacillate .They do need a big hit having not had one since Atsuhime in 08 and personally next years does not sound very inspiring but that is myself of course .With the connection to the earthquake i imagine it will be a big hit .
