Quote:
Saitô Hajime was born as a son of Gokenin in Edo.

This article "Birthplace of Tokyo University of Science" describes "Hatamoto, Suzuki Manjiro had 2 retainers. One was founder of Wakamatsu school Umezawa Gihei, the other one was Wasan-ka(kind of mathematician) Yamaguchi Kimata(or Hiroaki) whose little brother was Saito Hajime of Shinsengumi."(Page4)

Saito's father wasn't Gokenin but Hatamoto's retainer.

New historical material found.
Old NPA record mentions "Saito Hajime" (not Fujita Goro)
