Sorry if this is a dumb question or if I'm posting this in the wrong place, but I've seen this picture flaoting around and I'm wondering if anyone could identify which movie it came from.

It looked interesting.

Thanks

Not sure its a movie ,looks like a screen shot from a Taiga Drama ,probably from the 70's ,wish i had a better look at the actors face ,anyway my guess is either Kunitori Mongatari (1973) or Ogun No Hibi (1978).

The actor does look like Koji Takahashi ,so maybe Ogun No Hibi ?.

Yeah, it does have that late 70's to mid 80's made for Japanese TV look. (To the OP, Lemon knows this already) There really weren't very many theatrical 'warlord' movies made (period movies were usually chanbara, ninja, and 'noble ronin' efforts) but there were truckloads of Taigas and especially New Years specials that focused on warlords. Wouldn't surprise me if it was from one of those four hour two day Specials. Wouldn't even surprise me if it was a photo of a reenactment group, except that everything looks a little too perfect, the ashigaru armor looks to be matching sets, and the 'daimyo' in these groups are almost always the older gents.

Google reverse image search turns up nothing.

Does look like the scene from Ogun No Hibi when Nobunaga enters Sakai for the first time .

I am wondering about how you got that out of the hundreds of shots of Nobunaga in procession that must exist. I suppose you investigated when Koji Takahashi acted Nobunaga and came up with Ogon no Hibi, but then what? I remember a lot of it, and Nobunaga and Sakai was important, but I do not see that that picture has anything to identify it out of all the scenes of Nobunaga marching. Do you have a copy of the whole Taiga and so started looking through it? If so, you were lucky that that scene was in a very early episode. Or do you have a photographic (or cinematic) memory?

The actor looks Nakai Kiichi but I think he's never played Nobunaga.

Bethetsu just an uneducated guess on my part ,plus it gives me a reason to post some Ogun No Hibi clips ,excellent Taiga .

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RPK_BKBj8Y

And yes i have seen it in both full and condensed versions ,and seen the NHK Book on it as well ,but not for about 5/6 years .

To be clear though ,my guess is based on facial recognition of the actor ,not any of clips of Nobunaga .It could also be Kunitori Monogatari (1973)or Tokugawa Ieyasu(1983) as its hard to see the face clearly ,but cheekbones lead me to think Takahashi .

Here is a clip ,look about 3 mins in as Nobunaga escorts the Shogun into Kyoto , look at the face ,i am sure it is the same as in the pic .Again just a guess . My other candidates would be Atsuo Nakamura or a young Koji Yakusho .

Also Koji Takahashi as Nobunaga in Taikoki (1965) ,as i am sure you know being a resident in Japan and having the Jidai Geki Channel ,Koji was the first actor to repeat a role in a Taiga .

This blog says that it's "Tokugawa Ieyasu" taiga.

I looked it up, but nothing useful came up. I just found lots of irrelevant pics (including kitties).

But the Ougon no Hibi one has the same banners... but it's entirely possible that the same banners are recycled over multiple productions... right?[/url]

They recycle a lot besides just banners. They reused part of the attack scene from the Chushingura drama Genroku Taiheiki for a scene in Yoshimune (they said "for thrift" kenyaku 倹約 no tame, a major concern of Yoshimune's).

I was thinking Takahashi because of the mustache and cheekbones ,but Koji Yakusho would be a perfect match as well .
Glad we finally were able to figure it out .
