Hello again Samurai Archives,

I'm working with two other artists on a project right now called A Land of Narrow Paths. It is an art and research project dedicated to creating a comprehensive, illustrative map of Edo period Japan, as well as a narrative travel guide of Japan set in that era.

We're trying to build a community around it via Kickstarter. A lot has gone into the map so far, including hand papermaking (washi), woodblock printing (mokuhanga), and sumi ink calligraphy. However, we want to raise funds to print a few editions of the map (archival prints on washi), finish a bunch of calligraphy and artwork, and complete a small book about the time period. If you're interested in the Edo period or Japanese history in general, we could really use your support. In return, you get a beautiful print and a narrative digital book about the time period.

Here is our Kickstarter project page. I sincerely appreciate all the support we've gotten from people who visit Samurai Archives, and Samurai Archives itself. I have met some amazing people through this site in the short time I have been reading and posting, all of whom have been instrumental in making this project happen.

Here are a couple images of what we've been working on:

Feel free to ask me any questions about the project and what we're doing. Thank you!

Nicholas

Congrats-looks like you've met your goals already and then some. I'll join in when I have a bit more time to look at the options.

Thank you kindly. We are overwhelmed that the project has already reached its funding goal. Even so, your support is absolutely still needed and appreciated. Everything past that goal will be put towards making more content for the booklet (more sections and illustrations), and making the maps even better in whatever way we can.

Let me know if you have any questions about the options! International shipping costs are kind of crazy (could be worse, honestly), but this can be offset if you know others in your area who want a map (I can fit multiple maps in the same mailing tube).
