Does anybody know this Kenjutsu Ryu-ha?
It sounds weird because Otome 乙女 means young girl.
I found it here.
http://www.bakusin.com/eiketu/kenhan.html

According to the web site, Sendai han samurai Sekiguchi Buzaemon was teaching Otome Ryu Kenjutsu.
I did google but nothing came out.

shikisoku,

What I have been able to find is that Otome Ryuu means a ryuuha that was linked to a particular han in either a secret fashion or just limited from public view.
I do not have an kanji for it though.

Peace,

Matt

Maybe somebody can give the kanji, but I heard it's supposed to be the teachings in a court(or palace).
Basically, an Otome ryu would be a ryu-ha only taught to the daimyo and his Hatamoto or a select few, part of the daimyo's court.

I was referring to the Otome term mr.Iaidoka used.
If you want my opinion, that ryûha you asked about seems...weird? What I mean is, I don't see anyone naming their school 'little girl' unless it was about teaching manners and such.

Hi,'o-tome-bujutsu' means 'inside the clan martial art' similar to 'o-shiki-uchi' meaning 'practice in the room'. A closed door art for 'members only'. John

Could be a typo.

The correct kanji for Otome-ryu is 御留流. An otome-ryu was a bujutsu ryuha that was specifically sponsored and reserved for the retainers of a specific domain. Sometimes a domain would have more than one ryuha as Otome-ryu. (e.g. Shingetsu Muso Yanagi-ryu was the Otome-ryu for the Nabeshima-han. Sosuishi-ryu & Isejitoku-ryu were both otome-ryu for the Kuroda-han.)
